The One with the Only One
As some of you might know, these past few weeks have been tough for me: I've been an emotional wreck. Going to the movies has always been my therapy; but because of work, I've watched only a handful this year. I caught Curtis Hanson's In Her Shoes last Saturday, hoping that I could escape misery even for just two hours. Boy was I wrong.
Total chick flick through and through, but what got me was the poem that Cameron Diaz (one of the most underrated actresses, imho) read towards the end of the film. I'm no poet (never will be), and I've been trying to put into words what my heart could not tell. Naisulat na pala siya almost 50 years ago. Basa!

i carry your heart with me by e.e. cummings
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Only then did I realize how lucky I am to have loved (the romantic kind). I thought I had, but it's only now that I trully experience what it's like to love. I wasn't a big believer of the clichè "It's better to have love and lost than to have never loved at all". Now, it doesn't sound so bad after all.
And who says all is lost already? I once read that there are three things certain in this world: faith, hope and love. Faith is believing that what is in your heart has a chance. Hope is committing to that belief. Love is enduring even when it stands alone.
Happy Holidays! :p
